Giving Tuesday is an annual celebration of doing good. Celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (November 28, 2023) following days like Black Friday or Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a day to support non-profit organizations and give back to your community.
This year, the library is asking for your support, while also focusing on some of the local small businesses that give to the library year-round! Instead of donating to the library directly, we ask that you consider buying a gift card from Wild Birds Unlimited, Big Apple Bagels, or Schuler Books, and then donate that gift card to the library!
Wild Birds Unlimited generously supplied ELPL with bird feeders and a bird bath and helped create our bird sanctuary on the east side of our building. They donated the supplies for our Birding Kits, which allow patrons to take birding equipment like binoculars and field guides on the go. And, they also discount the bird seed and suet that keeps our bird population thriving and well fed!
Big Apple Bagels donates bagels for various library programs, including our Books and Bagels program for 4th-6th graders, our Book Bites program for middle school students, and our Birding Club for all ages.
Schuler Books gives the library a generous discount on the purchase of books used by our book clubs Project Lit, Book Bites and Books and Bagels. Patrons who register early for these book clubs get a free copy of that month's book to keep!
By purchasing and donating gift cards, you will be helping to support your local library AND support local small businesses. And since the library provides free programs, materials, and services to the community, you'll be supporting access for yourself and your neighbors too! What a win for all of us!
There will be a container to collect the gift cards at the Service Desk, or you can feel free to hand them to any Customer Service Associate, and the library will put them to good use.
Of course, you can also choose to support the library in other ways too:
- With a donation through our website via credit card
- Mailing a check
- Designating us in your Kroger Community Rewards account
- Volunteer your time, or donate books and money to the Friends of the East Lansing Public Library
- Share your voice in the community! Tell your friends about library resource! Share ELPL's social media posts! Call an elected official to share why you think supporting libraries is valuable!
No donation is too small! By sharing your time, money, and voice, you help us out immensely so we can keep doing all the cool things we love to do.
