February is Black History Month, a month that is celebrated at the East Lansing Public Library. In addition to displays, the library was honored to have three Black folk singers perform in a special concert, In the Shelter of Each Other. Due to Covid, the concert was recorded for you to enjoy from the safety of your homes.
Robert Jones, Reggie Harris, and Josh White, Jr. graced the stage for the very first time together. What a special night! They shared stories and songs and provided history lessons at the same time. All three men are dedicated to promoting peace and justice for all. ELPL hopes it's the first of many times these amazing singers/storytellers will join together to uplift people through their music. They finished the evening with "We Shall Overcome" - a fitting ending to a powerful concert.
"Funding for these grants has been provided by Michigan Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act economic stabilization plan."
