ELPL recently launched a casual bike riding club called ELPL Rides. We are excited to ride with you. ELPL rides will take place two more times this year before starting again in the Spring of 2025. We'll ride together on Monday evening, October 21st starting at 4pm and Monday evening, October 28th starting at 4:30pm. On October 21st we'll be joined by City of East Lansing Principal Planner Landon Bartley, who'll share his knowledge of biking opportunities in East Lansing. On October 28th we will be joined by Tim Potter, Sustainable Transportation Manager at the MSU Bikes Service Center.
On our inaugural ride last month, we learned from a rider that the Inter-Urban Pathway is named after its history as a tram route. We thought this was a pretty cool piece of information. Because we are librarians, we dug a bit further, and with the help of our wonderful colleagues at Capital Area District Libraries, we found some images of the tram:
According to our fellow rider, the street car began its route at the corner of Albert and M.A.C. It traveled north along M.A.C, turned east on Burcham and continued straight east along what is now know as the Inter-Urban Pathway, before heading north to Lake Lansing.
Join us next time - you never know what cool things we might learn!
